The Annual Lay Apostolate Conference of the Commission for the Laity of the Diocese of Jaffna was held on 12 July.
The programme, organised by the Commission’s Director, Rev. Fr. Mavulis, was held under the chairmanship of the Commission President, Mr Arul Jegin.
The event began with the celebration of the Holy Mass at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Jaffna, followed by the conference sessions at Bishop Justin Hall.
During the conference, the Commission presented its annual reports for the past year. A keynote address titled “Contemporary Political, Social and Economic Realities and Christian Living” was delivered by Rev. Fr. Raviraj, Lecturer at St. Francis Xavier Major Seminary, Columbuthurai, Jaffna.
In recognition of the Year of Social Communication, the conference also honoured the Marainathi Catholic Media Centre of the Diocese of Jaffna and the Pathukavalan Catholic print media for their dedicated service to the Church’s communication ministry.
The awards were received by Rev. Fr. Ainsley Roshan, Editor of Pathukavalan and Manager of St. Joseph Catholic Press, and Ms. Dilani Edwardnathan, a staff member of the Marainathi Catholic Media Centre.
The chief guest was the Vicar General of the Diocese of Jaffna, Rev. Fr. Josephthas Jebaratnam. Special guests included Rev. Fr. Augustin Pushparaj, Director of the Commission for the Laity of the Diocese of Mannar, and Rev. Fr. Ravichandran.
