An Emmaus Retreat for young priests from the dioceses of Jaffna, Mannar, Trincomalee and Batticaloa was held from July 27 to 29 at the Mannar Madhu Shrine Retreat Centre, under the auspices of the Northern and Eastern Bishops’ Conference.

The retreat was led by Rt. Rev. Dr Noel Emmanuel, Bishop of Trincomalee and President of the Northern and Eastern Bishops’ Conference, and was facilitated by a team from the Emmaus Retreat Ministry from Spain.

The retreat included 48-hour Eucharistic Adoration, Eucharistic encounters, group prayer, sharing of personal experiences, retreat reflections and the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

The concluding programme was held on July 29. Holy Mass was celebrated at the Mannar Madhu Shrine under the leadership of Rt. Rev. Dr. Antonypillai Gnanapragasam, Bishop of Mannar.

This was followed by a sharing session and a vote of thanks by Rev. Fr. Josephthas Jebaratnam, Vicar General of the Diocese of Jaffna and Secretary of the Bishops’ Conference.

More than 50 priests from the four Tamil-speaking dioceses participated in the retreat.
