A demonstration demanding justice for those buried in the Chemmani–Siththuppaththi mass grave was held on 30 July in front of the Colombo Fort Railway Station.
The protest was organised by Rev. Fr. Jeevantha Peiris, Rev. Fr. Sathiyavel and Rev. Fr. Sherad, with more than 50 participants, including priests, a religious sister and representatives of civil society organisations.
Addressing the media, Rev. Fr. Jeevantha Peiris said the discovery of the Chemmani mass grave could not be concealed or ignored. He called for a comprehensive investigation under international supervision to establish the truth about those buried at the site and to ensure justice for the victims.
He further stressed that people from both the North and South would continue to raise their voices together until justice is secured for the forcibly disappeared and their families.
