Understanding the ways of the Lord through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, walking alongside the people in their emotions and struggles, and inspiring hope in their lives are my primary mission in the Diocese entrusted to me, said the newly appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Jaffna, Rev. Dr. Anton Ranjith.
Speaking after the Holy Mass marking his assumption of office, Bishop Anton Ranjith said he has been entrusted with the responsibility of further developing the Diocese of Jaffna, following the dedication and sacrifices of bishops, priests and lay faithful who contributed to its growth and development.
He recalled the deep wounds caused to the land and its people by three decades of war, noting that thousands of people lost their loved ones, homes and possessions, while many continue to search for their missing relatives and seek justice.
The Bishop said he is deeply aware of his responsibility to stand with these people, understand their feelings and suffering, and guide them towards a life of hope.
He also called on everyone to work together, with firm faith in God and through peaceful and just means, to find solutions to the challenges faced by the people.
Bishop Anton Ranjith expressed his hope for the cooperation of all communities living within the Diocese of Jaffna in carrying forward this mission of faith, justice, peace and hope.
