A residential training program for altar servers of the Kilinochchi deanery was held from the 23rd to the 25th of the February at the Arobanam Boy’s home, Uruthirapuram.
The program was organized by Rev. Fr. Satheeskumar and Rev. Fr. Alin Karunakaran and was conducted under the guidance of Rev. Fr. Jayakumar, the dean of killinochchi.
The event included Holy Mass, Eucharistic devotion, the Way of the Cross, games, entertainment programs, lectures, and group activities.
Rev. Fr. Rohan Diyoni assistant parish priest of St. Mary’s Cathedral Jaffna delivered a talk on the importance of the ministry of altar servers. Leadership training sessions were conducted by Mr. Satheeskumar and Mr. Jegan Karanson of CPA. Altar servers’ practise was provided by Mr. Nishanthan, a teacher of St. Patrick’s College, Jaffna, while an awareness session was conducted by an officer from the Divisional Secretariat.
As a special feature, a vocation program titled “Come and See” was presented by the students of St. Martin’s minor seminary in Jaffna. The session was guided by Rev. Fr. Edwin Nathan together with the seminarians through a short drama, group activities, and experience-sharing.
On the final day, the Holy Mass was presided over by Rev. Fr. Jebaratnam, Vicar General of the Diocese of Jaffna. A total of 220 altar servers from various parishes of the deanery participated in the program and benefited from the spiritual activities.
