The 32nd anniversary of the tragic air strike on St. James’ Church, Gurunagar, was observed on November 13 at the church premises.

In remembrance of those who lost their lives, a Holy Mass was offered under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Stany Anthony of the OMI Congregation. Floral tributes and special prayers were also presented in honour of the victims.

On this day in 1993, an air attack carried out by the Sri Lanka Air Force struck the church while civilians were attending prayers or seeking refuge inside. Nine innocent civilians were killed, and several others sustained injuries in the tragic incident.

The memorial observance was marked by deep emotion, as clergy members, relatives of the victims, and members of the public gathered to honour the lives lost and to pray for lasting peace in the community.
