The Jaffna Diocesan Catechetical Centre, in collaboration with the Catholic Teachers’ Union, celebrated Bishop’s Day on June 11 at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Jaffna.
The celebration was coordinated by Rev. Fr. Duke Vincent, Director of the Catechetical Centre and Patron of the Catholic Teachers’ Union.
The event began with a ceremonial procession, as school students, led by the St. Patrick’s College marching band, accompanied the Bishop, Rt. Rev. Dr. Justin Bernard Gnanapragasam, from the Bishop’s House to the Cathedral.
Bishop Gnanapragasam presided over the festive Holy Mass, concelebrated by clergy and attended by religious, educators, and the faithful.
At the conclusion of the Mass, a special felicitation ceremony was held in his honor. During the event, 30 students who excelled in the 2024 Catholic Catechism Examinations were awarded medals and certificates in recognition of their achievements.
The celebration was attended by the Vicar General, Rev. Fr. P. J. Jebaratnam; priests; religious sisters; school principals; teachers; students; and members of the faithful, who gathered in gratitude and joy to honor their shepherd on his Name Day.
