The inauguration of the newly constructed Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Valayanmadam, Iranapalai Parish, was held on June 15.
Presided over by Rev. Fr. Sulakshan, Parish Priest of Iranapalai, the event was graced by Rt. Rev. Dr. Justin Gnanapragasam, Bishop of Jaffna, who blessed and officially opened the beautifully designed new church and celebrated the inaugural Holy Mass.
A large number of priests, religious, and parishioners attended this significant celebration.
Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Valayanmadam holds deep historical and emotional significance. During the 2009 war period, it served as a refuge for priests, religious, doctors, and civilians. It is also notable that the Late Rev. Fr. James Pathinathan and Rev. Fr. Vasanthaseelan were injured in separate shelling incidents there, and many civilians lost their lives within the church premises.
The new church stands today as a symbol of faith, resilience, and hope for the community.
