The Diocesan Liturgy Conference, organized by the Jaffna Diocesan Liturgy Commission, was held on May 12 at the Ahavoli Family Services Centre Hall in Jaffna.
The event, led by Rev. Fr. Thayakaran, Director of the Liturgy Commission, was graced by the presence of Rt. Rev. Dr. Justin Gnanapragasam, Bishop of the Diocese of Jaffna, who served as the chief guest.
A key highlight of the conference was the launch of a new hymnal titled “Nithamum Ninaindhida.” This comprehensive Tamil liturgical hymnal, comprising over 800 songs, was officially released by Bishop Justin Gnanapragasam.
Following the launch, keynote addresses were delivered by Rev. Fr. Navaretnam from the Diocese of Trincomalee. His presentation, titled “The Eucharist is the mystery of hope and a celebration,” emphasized the profound spiritual meaning and communal joy found in the Holy Eucharist.
The day included group discussions and the presentation of reports based on the keynotes. Delegates were also selected to represent the diocese at the upcoming National Liturgy Conference, scheduled to take place in Kandy in September.
Approximately 60 participants—including deans, liturgy coordinators, religious sisters, and parish representatives—took part in this significant diocesan gathering.
Notably, the preparation for the new hymnal began under the direction of former Liturgy Commission Director Rev. Fr. James and was brought to completion under the current director, Rev. Fr. Thayakaran.
