The Lenten Passion Play “Velliyil Nyayiru” was successfully staged in Jaffna from April 10th to 13th at the CPA Open-Air Theatre.
Organized by Thirumarai Kalamanram, the Centre for Performing Arts, the event featured more than 200 performers and drew thousands of spectators over four days. The play, which powerfully depicted the Passion of Christ, was praised for its grand stage design, compelling music, and immersive lighting and sound effects.
First staged in 2010 and revived in 2018, this year’s performance was directed by Mr. Johnson Rajkumar, Deputy Director of the CPA. “Velliyil Nyayiru” has grown into a major cultural and spiritual event in the Northern Province, offering a meaningful space for reflection during the Lenten season.
