The 84th National Catholic Youth Assembly, organized by the National Catholic Youth Federation of Sri Lanka, was held from June 20th to 22nd in the Diocese of Mannar.

The assembly was coordinated by Rev. Fr. Victor Soosai, Director of the Mannar Diocesan Youth Commission, and brought together youth representatives from across the country to celebrate faith, culture, and fellowship.

The event commenced with a flag-hoisting ceremony at the site of the statue of Our Lady of Madhu in Mannar town. From there, participants and guests proceeded in a traditional cultural procession to the Mannar Cultural Hall, vividly showcasing the region’s rich heritage.

The inaugural ceremony at the Cultural Hall featured vibrant art performances, followed by a lively musical night held at the Kalai Aruvi premises.

The gathering was graced by Rt. Rev. Dr. Anthonipillai Gnanapragasam, Bishop of Mannar, and Rev. Fr. Helana Peiris, Director of the National Youth Commission. They were joined by youth directors, priests, religious, and approximately 120 young participants representing 12 dioceses across Sri Lanka.

On June 21st, the assembly continued with sessions, discussions, and activities at the YFC Retreat Centre in Keeri, Mannar, fostering deeper reflection and community building among the youth.

The assembly concluded on Sunday, June 22nd, with a solemn Holy Mass, marking the end of a spiritually enriching and memorable gathering.
