The 38th death anniversary of Thiyagi Thileepan, who launched a hunger strike after presenting five key demands to the Indian government, was commemorated on September 26 in the Tamil homeland and among diaspora communities worldwide.

In Jaffna’s Nallur area, the main remembrance took place at the Thileepan Memorial, where participants offered floral tributes and lit oil lamps in front of his portrait. Ceremonial events and homage rituals were also held.

Thousands attended the commemorations, reflecting the continuing resonance of Thileepan’s sacrifice within the Tamil community.
