The 32nd memorial of the fishermen killed by the Sri Lankan Navy at the vadamaradchchi east Sundikkulam Toduvai Vaaikaal coastal area was commemorated on February 18 at Kattaikadu.

The event commenced at the St. Mary’s Ground in Kattaikadu with the laying of the foundation for a memorial pillar in remembrance of the victims. Floral tributes were offered, oil lamps were lit, to honor those who lost their lives.

The memorial was attended by several priests,community leaders, and members of the public.

The massacre occurred in the early hours of February 18, 1994, when ten fishermen were shot dead by Navy Dvora boats while they were fishing on catamarans in the coastal waters of Toduvai Vaikkal, Sundikkulam, marking one of the most tragic incidents in the region’s history.
