As part of the global mourning and remembrance of His Holiness Pope Francis, the Diocese of Jaffna offered a solemn requiem Mass on the 26th of April.
The Mass was celebrated at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Jaffna, presided over by Rt. Rev. Dr. Justin Gnanapragasam, Bishop of Jaffna. At the beginning of the liturgy, a candle was lit in front of the Holy Father’s portrait, and priests led a moment of tribute.
The Eucharistic celebration was attended by Rev. Fr. Jebaratnam, Vicar General of the Diocese, along with numerous priests, religious sisters, and members of the faithful, all gathering to pray for the repose of Pope Francis’s soul.
After the Mass, the faithful expressed their final respects by offering floral tributes before the portrait of the late Holy Father. The event served as a heartfelt occasion for the diocesan community to unite in prayer and gratitude for the life and service of Pope Francis.
