The opening ceremony of the newly constructed St. Sebastian’s Chapel in Pungudutivu was held on May 4th, marking a significant moment for the local Catholic community.
Organized by Rev. Fr. Liyans, the Parish Priest, the event was graced by the Bishop of the Diocese of Jaffna, Rt. Rev. Dr. Justin Gnanapragasam, who blessed and officially opened the chapel and presided over the Holy Mass.
The construction of the chapel began in 2023 under the leadership of former parish priest Rev. Fr. Edwin Naresh, and was brought to completion during the tenure of the current parish priest, Rev. Fr. Liyans.
This new sacred space now stands as a symbol of unity and renewed faith for the Pungudutivu parishioners.
