The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Sri Lanka, through its National Commission for Liturgy and Culture, held the National Liturgy Symposium 2025 from 5th to 7th September at the National Seminary of Our Lady of Lanka in Ampitiya, Kandy.
The symposium focused on the theme “Eucharist, Fountain of Synodality through Communion.”
The event was graced by His Eminence Arthur Cardinal Roche, Prefect of the Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, and was held under the patronage of His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, Archbishop of Colombo and Chairman of the National Commission for Liturgy and Culture.
The symposium began with Holy Mass, followed by a keynote address by Cardinal Roche, who spoke on the theological significance of the theme.
Rev. Fr. Cecil Joy Perera delivered a talk on “The Eucharist is a Mystery of Faith,” and Rev. Fr. Anton Sriyan spoke on “The Eucharist is a Celebration.”
The program also featured group discussions, Eucharistic adoration, and film screenings.
On the second day, Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith delivered a lecture titled “The Mystery of Eucharistic Life – The Eucharist is a Mystery to Be Celebrated.”
Participants later visited the Cathedral, where they joined in Holy Mass, a Eucharistic procession, and adoration.
The three-day event brought together nearly 150 participants, including bishops, priests, religious, and lay faithful from 12 dioceses across Sri Lanka.
From the Diocese of Jaffna, a 15-member delegation led by Rev. Fr. Thayaharan, Director of the Diocesan Liturgy Commission, and including Vicar General Rev. Fr. Jebaratnam, attended the symposium.
