In celebration of National Catholic Youth Sunday, the Jaffna Diocesan Youth Commission organized a special program on September 7th.
The event was coordinated by Rev. Fr. John Croos, Diocesan Youth Director, and presided over by Mr. Niraj, President of the Youth Commission.
The day began with a solemn Mass at St. James’ Church, Gurunagar, celebrated by Rev. Fr. Jesuthas, Dean of Ilavalai Deanery. Following the Mass, a youth rally made its way along Jaffna Main Street and concluded at St. Mary’s Cathedral.
A stage program was then held at the Cathedral hall, featuring a keynote address by retired principal Mr. Augustin on the theme “Today’s Youth and the Word of God.”
The event also included a Jubilee-themed Villupattu performance by the Gurunagar Parish Youth Union and a raffle draw.
The celebration was graced by Rev. Fr. Jero Selvanayagam, Dean of Jaffna Deanery, as Chief Guest. Rev. Fr. Sebajeevan, Coordinator of Kilinochchi Deanery Youth and Director of Caritas Vanni HUDEC, attended as Special Guest, and former Youth Commission President Mr. Jeyanth participated as Guest of Honour, along with other deanery coordinators.
More than 170 youth representing parishes across the Jaffna Diocese took part, making the event a vibrant celebration of faith, community, and youth unity.
