Kaviya Nayagan, the Lenten passion play produced by the Centre for Performing Arts, was staged from March 26 to 29 at the open-air theatre of the Centre in Jaffna.
The grand production showcased remarkable stage design, striking visual presentations, and a powerful blend of music, sound, and lighting. More than 300 artistes contributed both on stage and behind the scenes.
Over ten thousand devotees from across Sri Lanka gathered to witness the play, participating with deep reverence and devotion.
The visual presentation of Kaviya Nayagan was originally written by the late Rev. Fr. Maria Xavier, the founding director of the Centre, and was first staged under his direction in 2001.
The play was later performed in 2004, 2008, 2013, and 2022, gaining widespread acclaim each time.
This year marks the sixth staging of Kaviya Nayagan, directed by Mr. Jeyakanthan, continuing the rich tradition of the Centre for Performing Arts.
