As part of the Jubilee Year celebrations, parishioners of Mary’s Cathedral, Jaffna, staged a folk drama titled “Jaffna Martyrs” on September 14th at the cathedral premises.

The event was organized by Rev. Fr. Jero Selvanayagam, Parish Priest of the Cathedral, and featured the participation of more than 25 artists both on stage and behind the scenes.

The drama was written by Rev. Fr. Balathas Brian, directed by Annaviyar Andrew Julius, and supported by Rev. Fr. Rohan Diony, Assistant Parish Priest.

The program was graced by Rt. Rev. Dr. Justin Gnanapragasam, Bishop of the Diocese of Jaffna, attended as Chief Guest.

Clergy, religious sisters, parishioners, and representatives from neighboring parishes were also present.

The performance depicted the hardships faced by the Catholic community in Jaffna under Dutch rule, the missionary work of St. Joseph Vaz in Sri Lanka, and the enduring Christian witness of Don Peter.
