In a bid to empower differently abled individuals and promote healthy living, the Claretian Congregation of Sri Lanka, through its initiative VAROD (Vanni Rehabilitation for the Differently Abled), inaugurated a traditional food sales outlet in Pampaimadu, Vavuniya, on April 25th.

The initiative, themed “Food is Medicine,” was organized by Rev. Fr. Vincent, Director of VAROD. It aims to raise awareness about the importance of traditional and nutritious food practices while creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for people with disabilities.

The newly opened outlet will serve as a hub for producing and selling high-quality traditional food items, both wholesale and retail. These items are prepared by beneficiaries of the VAROD program as well as within its center, offering them avenues for economic self-reliance.

This launch marks part of a broader awareness campaign taking place across the Kilinochchi District.

For over 16 years, VAROD has been actively serving more than 5,450 differently abled individuals across Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu, and Vavuniya, offering vocational training, rehabilitation services, and community reintegration support.
