The Diocese of Jaffna will officially inaugurate the Year of Social Communication on Sunday, January 11, under the theme “Let’s foster a year of peace through social communication.”
A special Holy Mass, presided over by the Bishop of Jaffna, Rt. Rev. Dr. Justin Gnanapragasam, will be celebrated at St Mary’s Cathedral to mark the launch. Simultaneous services will also be held in all churches across the diocese, according to the Vicar General, Rev. Fr. Jebaratnam.
As part of the observance, a reflection session for priests will take place on Monday, January 12, at the Bishop’s House, focusing on promoting responsible and effective communication within communities.
The Year of Social Communication coincides with the 150th anniversary of Paathukaavalan, the Diocese of Jaffna’s official print publication, underscoring the enduring role of media in fostering faith, dialogue, and social cohesion.
