Hundreds of people gathered in Thaiyiddy on January 3rd to call for the removal of the Tissa Viharaya, which protesters claim was built illegally, and to demand the release of the surrounding lands.
The demonstration, organized under the theme “A Voice against Power and Oppression,” included members of Tamil political parties, religious leaders, civil society groups, and local residents, who voiced their opposition and urged authorities to take immediate action.
The protest highlights ongoing concerns over land rights and alleged illegal constructions in the area, drawing attention to the need for a prompt resolution.
