The Holy See has appointed Archbishop Andrzej Józwowicz as the new Apostolic Nuncio to Sri Lanka, further strengthening diplomatic and pastoral relations between Sri Lanka and the Vatican.
The appointment was officially announced on January 31, 2026, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and the Holy See.
Archbishop Józwowicz succeeds Archbishop Brian Udaigwe, who has been reassigned as Apostolic Nuncio to Ethiopia. Born on January 14, 1965, in Poland, Archbishop Józwowicz was ordained a priest in 1990 and later joined the Vatican’s diplomatic service. He has previously served as Apostolic Nuncio to Rwanda from 2017 to 2021 and as Apostolic Nuncio to Iran from 2021 until his new appointment
