The newly constructed Divine Mercy Church in the Ilavalai area was officially opened on September 9.
The opening ceremony was organised under the guidance of Rev. Fr. Bernard Regno, Parish Priest of St. Anne’s Church, Ilavalai.
Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese of Jaffna, Rt. Rev. Dr Justin Gnanapragasam, attended the occasion, blessed and formally opened the church, and presided over the Holy Mass.
Several priests, religious sisters and faithful took part in the ceremony.
This is the second Divine Mercy Church to be established in the Diocese of Jaffna.
The foundation stone for the church was laid in 2023 by the then Vicar General, Rev. Fr. Jebaratnam, during the tenure of Rev. Fr. Eric Roshan, who was serving as the Parish Priest at the time.
Following the completion of the construction work, the newly built church has now been opened for worship.
