The Northern and Eastern Bishops’ Council has decided to take steps to bring together Tamil political parties in the interest of securing a lasting political solution for the Tamil people.
This decision was taken during a meeting of the bishops and vicars general of the Dioceses of Jaffna, Mannar, Trincomalee, and Batticaloa, held on March 18 at the Parish House of Saint Anthony’s Church in Erampaikulam, Vavuniya.
The meeting was presided over by the Bishop of Trincomalee, Rt. Rev. Dr. Noel Emmanuel. During the gathering, participants reviewed past activities and also held discussions on future plans and priorities.
A major focus of the discussions was the need to ensure the well-being and future of the Tamil people. Accordingly, the Council resolved to actively engage in efforts aimed at fostering unity among Tamil political parties.
The meeting was also attended by the Bishop of Mannar, Rt. Rev. Dr. Antonypillai Gnanapragasam, along with the vicars general of the respective dioceses.
